Take care when mixing Reiki with other modalities
We are blessed with Reiki in that there are no contraindications, no way to imbalance our clients, no diagnosis necessary or recommended. When we do Reiki for others our job is to be open, loving, and hold space for the Reiki to flow and for the client to receive as much as they want. In this respect Reiki is a very safe, balancing technique that we never have to worry about outcomes or whether or not we are doing the right thing. This changes if we begin to mix Reiki with

When Others Don’t Like Reiki
It can be tough when other people don’t approve of Reiki, or have a negative experience with a healing or teaching we have given them. It can create fear in us that we are doing something wrong, but often its actually an invitation to deepen our own relationship with Reiki. Use these incidents to look inwards, and become more resilient to the opinion of others.

Video Collection: What do I do with my mind during Reiki healing?
Many healers think their job is to ‘fix’ their clients, in Reiki healing we encourage people to focus on being present and open and stop cluttering up the space with their unnecessary thinking. The real gift is in your ability to fully accept and be OK with everything exactly as it is. #healingothers

Feeling Heavy after Healing Others
As we gain more practice as a Reiki healer, we will come across difficult cases or people who are very ill. Energetically it can take a lot from us if we are not careful, as this case study shows. Always check-in with what your own expectations are, what you want for them is what you will give. Dear Elaine, I would like to seek your advice on a recent issue and hope you will be able to shed some light on this. I was asked to begin Reiki treatments for a person with terminal s

My daughter is more agitated after Reiki, is it too much Reiki?
Question: I have recently completed my Reiki Level 1 and have been doing Reiki healing for a week on my daughter. I do the 12 position healing for 2.5 mins on each position. The last few days however it takes her a while to settle and fall asleep even after I have finished the 12 positions. Have I done too much Reiki healing at one go, that now her body doesn’t ne

Why did I start to cry when I gave someone Reiki?
When we give Reiki to others, we are taught that Reiki is a one-way process – from us to the other. In this way we do not need to protect ourselves, and we do not need to worry about their energy affecting us. But as many people notice, Reiki treatments DO affect us, and sometimes in startling, or uncomfortable ways. Firstly it is important to understand the Reiki is not doing this; it is simply the interaction between two peoples’ energy fields. At Reiki level 1 this is m

Dealing with Transference in Reiki healing
There is a term in psychotherapy called ‘transference’, it's when a client unconsciously transfers feelings and attitudes from a person or situation in the past on to a person or situation in the present. It's a common issue amongst counselors and their patients, and it is something to watch out for in Reiki, especially if your client becomes a regular. Examples of Transference In an attempt to demystify transference, here are some very simple examples: You meet someone at a

Emotional Detox – Is it Me, You or Everyone?
After doing a Reiki treatment with a client or a group share with other practitioners, if we feel a surge of negative emotions, or become affected by emotions we don’t normally associate with Reiki – anger, sadness, frustration, anxiety – it’s easy to panic! Reiki is associated with feelings of love, peace and calm so immediately we begin to question, what is going on? These feelings can be caused by three different explanations; it’s useful to be able to distinguish between
