We’ve come to the last of the Chakra series, we hope you have enjoyed it! Moving on from the Third-Eye Chakra, we are looking at our seventh and final chakra this week, the Crown Chakra. The subject of chakras is actually very extensive, so what we aim to do here is to give you a general overview, as well as suggestions to strengthen and support each chakra.
Also known as Sahasrara in Sanskrit, which means thousand, the Crown Chakra is often referred to as a thousand-petaled lotus. It is the seat of higher consciousness and cosmic awareness, and is our connection to our spirituality (God/faith/religion/Universe) and our Higher Selves. Located on the top of the head, the Crown Chakra is associated with the pineal gland, and thus is linked to our access to our subconscious and a higher state of awareness. The colour associated to the Crown Chakra is violet, and the developmental age of the crown chakra is believed to be between the ages of 42 – 49.
The ‘way’ of the Crown Chakra is to transcend the ego, letting the need of control and materialistic attachments go, and trusting in the flow of life. There is a sense of pure joy and peace, and the knowing that we are all connected as One, and all is well. The Crown Chakra is also the energy centre from where we receive our inspiration. On a physical level, the Crown Chakra rules the central nervous system and the brain.
When our Crown Chakra is balanced, we are more open-minded, and are able to see the wisdom from our life and our experiences. We are open to the cosmic and spiritual connections, but are also able to stay centred. We are able to live in the now, and feel joyful and inspired. There are no material attachments, but instead a sense of wholeness and completeness, in union with the Divine source.
If we have an unhealthy Crown Chakra, we may feel a lack of purpose and direction, have learning difficulties, or have a hard time making decisions. We may be ‘flighty’, and have a feeling of being ‘disconnected’ from the world around us, or a feeling of alienation or being misunderstood. An unbalanced Crown Chakra can also manifest as spiritual cynicism and rigid beliefs, or depression, severe lack of faith, intense worry and anxiety. On a physical level, an unhealthy Crown Chakra may manifest as clumsiness, migraines, disease to the brain or immune system, chronic exhaustion, and over-sensitivity to light and sound.
Nourishing your Crown Chakra and keeping it in balance
Affirmations, “chakracises”, and integrating the colour violet or white into your wardrobe are some ways to keep your Crown Chakra healthy and in balance. Below are some suggestions on what you can do:
I am one with all creation.
I am consciously living my divine purpose.
I am open to the goodness and abundance of the Universe.
I release all limited thoughts and lift myself up to ever higher levels of awareness.
I choose to transform my life and become free.
I honour the Divine within me.
I know that all is well in my world.
None! Fasting and detoxing is the ‘food’ for the Crown Chakra.
Prayer and meditation are great for the Crown Chakra
Sage, Myrrh, Frankincense, Juniper
Amethyst opens and purifies the Crown Chakra, protects against the influence of negative energies and enhances spiritual awareness.
Clear quartz cleanses your energy body and amplifies all other crystal and healing work you do. Goals can be achieved faster because of its ability to focus and concentrate your thoughts and energies.
White calcite clears your mind of noise and clutter, and its effects become more apparent the longer you use it. One of the best crystals to use for meditation or focusing on a particular task.
Selenite clears toxic energies from the body. By clearing away negative energy it allows higher vibrations to permeate through your chakras and aura.
